What do you do with Nana’s leftover wool?
Caringbah Lions decided to turn it into rugs, beanies, and teddies and give local ladies a good social time as well. This idea worked out so well we are celebrating the project’s tenth year and we can’t say how many thousand people we have helped along the way.
Knee rugs go to patients in nursing homes. Bigger rugs go to Wraps with Love who distribute them in disaster areas here and overseas. One of our rugs might be a blanket for an orphan in the highlands of Africa! Our beanies were made in response to a request from Sutherland Hospital for people in the cancer ward and our Trauma Teddies must be famous by now. These teddies go to ambulances, doctor’s surgeries and hospitals to be given to children; a Red Cross initiative.
Our Lions make coffee for the ladies, make sure we have all the needed wool and stuffing, and distribute the results of their work.
In 2015 Caringbah Lions sponsored Neural Knitworks. A project initated by our member Pat Pillai to promote active healthy brains.
